Mission
The NCCR Molecular Oncology contributes to clarifying causes of cancer development and to identifying new targets for cancer therapies. The program particularly aims at establishing new pathways for the translation of progress in basic cancer research into advances in clinical oncology, through an improved interaction between basic researchers and clinical scientists in Switzerland.
The principal goals of the NCCR Molecular Oncology are:
-
to strengthen the already high quality of basic cancer research at the participating institutes and expand it to new important fields.
-
to exploit the results of basic research at the participating institutes for the development of new cancer therapies.
-
to provide education and training in cancer research.
To achieve this there will be a strong emphasis on:
-
the cooperation with Swiss clinical oncology departments.
-
the cooperation with Swiss and international drug developing companies.
-
the training of MD/PhDs as clinical researchers in oncology.
